Abstract

ABSTRACT

This study aimed to analyze the effectiveness of using social media to improve students' speaking skills of SMP 1 Kaliwungu Kudus in the academic year of 2020/2021. The method used in this study is quantitative with semi-experimental design by providing treatment in the form of procedure text assignments using Instagram. The population in this study were students of grade IX SMP 1 Kaliwungu Kudus with a total sample of 90 students. The data obtained then will be analyzed using SPSS with the students’ pair t-test. The average score of speaking before the treatment conducted is 67 and it has been increasing to 74 after the treatment. So, the results of this study indicate that Instagram media is effective in increasing the students’ speaking skill with a p-value of 0.00 for all aspects (pronunciation, fluency, and diction). This research is expected to be able to provide new insights to improve the creativity of English teacher by using social media as one of media in teaching learning process.
